Sustainable Plastics Agenda

The government of Portugal joins effort to transform plastics industry and create a closed-loop economy

Sustainable Plastics Agenda receives a 24.4 Million Euro Grant from the government of Portugal

The grant builds on the 14.7 million Euros that will be invested by all members of the consortium.  The combined 39.1 million Euros is part of a three-year effort to promote a closed-loop, circular economy for plastics.

Creating a truly circular, sustainable plastics economy is a complex effort that involves everyone from raw material suppliers and equipment manufacturers to recyclers, brands, and consumers. Sustainable Plastics is an industry consortium founded to coordinate all of these players and transform the industry for a sustainable future.

Sustainable Plastics will use the current 39.1-million-euro in funding to reach major milestones by December 31, 2025, including:

  • Over 30 new patents registering scientific and technical advancements in plastics manufacturing, recovery, recycling, and circularity
  • More than 20 innovative products that will increase plastics circularity and improve consumer experiences
  • Over 80 training and knowledge-sharing events
  • A 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions linked to plastic production processes
  • An open knowledge base for the world with scientific papers, best practices, and lessons learned

The effort will mobilize 427 highly skilled professionals from 39 businesses and 10 industrial and research organizations.

As a global leader in sustainable plastic packaging design and manufacturing, Logoplaste and the Logoplaste Innovation Lab will play a major role in this three-year effort to transform the industry.
